We are a small hobby kennel located in Carmine Texas. Carmine Texas is Between Houston and Austin off Hwy 290.
We have ownedPembroke Welsh Corgi's since 1986 and brought our first dane home in 1996. Since then we have become active in Conformation, Obedience and Agility.
We strive to produce versatile Great Danes and Pembroke Welsh Corgi's who are not only competitive in Conformation but also in herding, tracking, Obedience, and Agility.
We strive to do every thing we can to produce healthy danes by Certifying them throughOFA,Cerf and Penn Hip.
All of our dogs areCHIC.
We offer life time breeder support like no other. We require owners to keep in contact with us through out their dogs life. We are always here to help we also rescue and rehabilitate several dogs every year.
We currently own and breed Blue, Black, Harlequin and Mantle Great Danes. We do own a Fawn girl but have no plans to breed her at this time.

Abby started out as Figg, then she was Grace.
As Grace she was locked in a crate so much she contracted a horrible urinary tract infection, as Grace she was tied out to a cloths line. As Grace her owners did not understand why the electric fence they had did not keep her from visiting kids walking to and from school. She needed to not be Grace any more.

So she became Figg again. She stayed with us for several months and then was placed with a lovely couple in Corpus were she became Abby.

Mick was a singleton puppy ( only puppy in the litter) He was delivered by c-section and part raised by Cowgirl. Micks ears never stood right and we elected not to continue showing him because of this. He was only shown a couple of times. He has only been bred to one out side girl ( not owned by myself) and was bred to both River and Cowgirl. He produces very nice puppies, we have kept a mantle son of his Penguin. Many of these guys came to stay with us for various reasons. Some were rescues, some were puppies we held back but decided to place, some were pups we brought in from other kennels, some are our own kids that we have retired. All were very much loved by us and placing one of our dogs in new homes is never taken lightly by us. Those that have not crossed over the bridge are in loving homes and we are very much involved in there lives.

We moved to Texas from California 1991. At that time I had a love for animals that had been fostered by my parents and has continued as my life work. I started out working in pet stores at 15 years of age and graduated naturally in to the veterinary field. I have been working as a Veterinary Technician since 1989.

We do not breed for a living. We own a successful welding business and are in the works of starting up a 2nd venture. Since I have been blessed with such a loving and understanding husband I am able to now stay home with my children and play with my dogs all day long.

My first puppy was a pet store bought Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Chelsea. In 1989 I paid $50 for her, she was spayed by 9 months of age. She is still my first love and fit well in my early years of apartment life. She passed over the bridge March of 2004.

As our family life progressed, I wanted a larger dog, but could not have one until I had a yard and a house (boy has this opinion changed since then!)

I kept thinking of all the breeds you could possibly get. I had been raised with Golden Retrievers and Miniature Schnauzers, but didn't want all that hair and skin/hip problems that came with the ones I had as a child.

Almost 13 years ago I met a black great dane and fell head over heals for his personality. After getting to know him and reading up on the breed, I started to look for a dane of my own. My husband and I started out with an interest in a breed that has grown into a love for all Great Dane's.

After bringing our first dane home in 1996, it became VERY apparent she had not been raised in doors and had not been properly socialized. After months of hard work and many behavior books later, I was able to determine that she just needs a while to adjust to situations. She turned out to be the best dog I have ever had. We have been through obedience class's, handling class's and turned into a very socialized girl!

When I started working at Brittmoore ANimal Hospital, the thought of showing started to enter my mind. I went to a few dog shows and was bit by the bug. I tried to show Daisy, thinking "this is the most beautiful girl in the word, she has to win". . . . .boy was I in for a ride.

THEN I really started the research!!!! Body type, head type, movement, color, personality. She had many of these qualities, but not all of them. After Careful consideration I decided to start with her health checks, and then look for a dog to breed with. The hope was to fix some of her flaws in the next generation. BOY what a surprise that was, I had 11 pups and all of them looked the same! I couldn't tell anything at first, but slowly you could see the future emerge...

We have been actively showing in Conformation and obedience since 2002, we have been training in Agility but due to physical limitations I have been unable to compete, but I truly enjoy the training.

In January of 2004 we brought in our first show Corgi. MARISTEL SHIMMER. Shimmer was Bred by Mary Ann Parker who is not only the the nicest person in the world but is also my mentor, friend and surrogate mother. Shimmer is my Daughters best friend and proves every day that she loves her too.

In 2005 we were Graced with our newest child after a very trying pregnancy that included a car accident and multiple hospitalizations. I am blessed to have Jamie in my life. Because of this new addition we have been forced to not show our dogs ourselves and we are now working with a professional handler.

3/8/2008 We are the proud breeders of CH Maristel TTS Tinkertoy. . .Teddy is from our very first Corgi breeding. Could not be happier.

TTS ( what does that mean?)
We started with black and blue danes
( and came up with Shyner-- black and blue HA HA)
And then thought: We live in Texas, and our last name is Tyner.
So we named ourselves "Tyners Texas Shyner".
Well this was just too long.
So for a while we were "Tyners"
finally we decided that "TTS" would be the best compromise.

Your puppy has been given the best start at life, what you do in the next year will determine just how good of a dog you will have for the rest of your life. Remember that he/she is a puppy until they are done growing. . . this is between 18 months and 2 years. Some lines are slower to mature then others and some dogs will go through multiple regressions back in to puppy behavior. consistency and patience is the key.

Potty Training:

Crate training is HIGHLY recommended. There are some people that think it is cruel, I am not one of those. I have seen what unattended puppies can do and it is worth not having a $2000 bill for a foreign body OR the loss of a family treasure due to boredom. Your puppy will be unable to have total bowel and urine continence until they are at LEAST 4 months old. The rule for a puppy is that they can be crated for as many hours as they are MONTHS old PLUS one. When you take home an 8 week old puppy you can not expect them to not mess in the crate UNLESS you are willing to get them out every 2-3 hours DAY AND NIGHT> the more consistent you are the quicker your puppy will train.

Take your puppy out EVERY TIME they get up from resting. . . when they first wake up they have to go. . . the longer you wait the bigger the chance for accidents. The other thing to remember: if you are not watching them they need to be in the crate, you can't get mad because YOU missed the signs.

Food and Water:
Puppies SHOULD have water 24 hours a day. . . unfortunately this also makes it harder to train. You can limit water but BE CAREFUL--you can also cause urinary tract infections. Great Danes should be fed at LEAST twice per day. Feeding three times AGAIN makes training a little harder but will also keep your puppy happier. We have made SPECIFIC feeding recommendations and I truly recommend you follow them. Look at the Body Condition CHart that was sent with you and evaluate your puppy on a weekly basis. Adjust feedings accordingly.

Exercise:

A bored puppy is a destructive puppy. Having 50 toys will not help. . .
Think about a kid with all the cool stuff in the world. . .they act out MORE then kids that have family support and an active life style, this breeds contentment. Getting up and going places, walks, the park, ANYTHING will help keep your puppies mind happy and stimulated. The more tired he or she is, the easier they will be to manage. IF you were cooped up 24 hours a day would you be happy? You should be willing to walk your puppy at LEAST once a day. . . 2-3 times would be better.

Not unlike children Puppies thrive on structure. Too little or too much and they will act out. Obedience training gives structure to your puppies life. We require that you take your puppy through some sort of formal training. This is for you and your puppy. Getting out, meeting other dogs, learning how to make your puppy behave, learning to read signals and body language is just a few of the benefits. Who knows, you might like it and want to pursue training on a higher level. Many danes do quite will in performance sports, there are MANY different levels and it is a wonderful bonding experience. It is also a way to show off just how good of a trainer you can be! Going to class is also a great way to socialize your dog, socialization is important for any breed of dog. Dogs need to learn about different people and things in life. The more they see and do when they are young the more sound of an adult they will be come ( MIND AND BODY ! )

Other things to think of:
You will need a Crate. This will run you between $150-$300
There are several different brands, some are drop pin and some are collapsible, some come with dividers ( to make the crate smaller while they are growing) One of the most important things will be: Where do you put it?

You will need a food an water bowl. I recommend large Stainless Steal bowls. They will last a life time and are easy to clean. Plastic bowls can cause some local allergic reactions, the metal bowels are easier to sterilize and keep clean. I buy mine at Wal-Mart. I don't buy the "dog" bowl's. . .I go to the people kitchen isle and buy the big stainless mixing bowls for $3

You will need a collar and leash: I recommend you buy one that fits now and worry about the next size latter. Lupine makes the best and has a life time guaranty like no other. . .if your dog chews it up they will replace it! Here is one of the many links:http://www.lupinepet.com/

You need to locate the food the breeder is using and make sure you will be able to get it on a regular basis. We currently use Eagle Pack puppy ( yellow bag) until they are 12 weeks old and then we recommend switching to a lower protein food. Between 21 and 24% protein and 14-16% fat with as high of fiber as you can find.

Last but not least: ASK QUESTIONS! Your breeder should be more then happy to help you with trouble shooting FOR LIFE.
We are available pretty much all the time to help. We also run a private on line message group that includes many of our owners. It has proven to be a fantastic resource for owners and a support group like no other! Not only do you have my help but also the support of other dane owners that have successfully raised there dane puppy. They are a fantastic group and they will do just about anything they can to help.
REMEMBER: ask for help before you have a problem. . .don't worry what anyone else will think, each dog and situation is different.

Breeding:
Prior to breeding health tests have been completed ( and passed) , pedigree's have been analyzed and many different points have been considered before we make our decisions. We search throughout the US looking for the perfect combination or pedigree, breed type and temperament.
We ALWAYS breed with the plan to hold a puppy back to show or for competition.
ALL of our dogs have had obedience training and have been raised with our family.

We can provide excellent references
( multiple) and will do anything we can for a dane in need. We have followed the GDCA guide lines for raising and breeding our dogs. Our puppies are not released until they are AT LEAST 8 weeks of age. We perform a comprehensive personality evaluation on all of our litters. They are evaluated for conformation at 8 weeks of age. You will receive a WRITTEN comprehensive guaranty.

Our Pups: All of our puppies are raised in our home. This means in the middle of our living room, not stuck off in an attached garage.
Potty training starts at 4 weeks of age. Socialization starts at birth.

We require you to keep in contact with us, send pictures, be active in your danes life and have your Great dane be a member of your family.

Prices Range from $750-2400 depending on the breeding.

Shipping is $350 MOST TIMES, this includes flight, Crate, mandatory health papers and travel to the airport.

Ears Cropping is OPTIONAL and can be preformed for a fee by our veterinarian, they charge $360 per crop.

Going Home: Upon release: All of our puppies are up to date on vaccinations and worming. This includes heart worm prevention and intestinal worming.
Dew claws have been removed at 5 days of age.

You will receive a comprehensive guide, including feeding instructions, breed information, vaccine and worming info. Copies of all health tests completed on the parents. Your first bag of dog food is provided.

We include a picture disk with ALL of the puppies in the litter, pedigree info and lots of helpful information.

We will aid in training and raising of your dane FOR LIFE.
We run an on line private dane group with TONS of information and a support group like no other. ALL of our danes are AKC registered. Papers are provided upon release.

You will receive a written guaranty at the time of placement. We guaranty against all proven inherited Great Dane health problems.

All pet puppies are placed on AKC limited registration. THIS MEANS THEY CAN NOT BE BRED. ALL limited puppies are co-owned until they are spayed or neutered. NO EXCEPTIONS. Once proof of this has been provided we are more then happy to sign off the papers.
All puppies that are released on full registration are co-owned until they are health tested, passed and any other contractual agreement has been completed
( I.E.: completion of a title)

Our Adults: Testing begins at 6 months and continues through out life. We start with the PENNHIP evaluation. Pennhip is one of the 2 excepted ways to clear hips. The other is the OFA.

Pennhip uses 3 xrays and actual measurements. One of the xrays is the OFA style xray, one is a distraction and one is a compression. They measure the laxity in the hips and grade it according to others in the breed. 50% is considered median for the breed anything higher is considered the better half. You also get a distraction measurement for each hip, this allows you to see improvement from generation to generation.

Thyroid, Heart and CERF are done at 1, 2, 4, and 6 years of age.

Heart checks are not perfect. They will only find a problem if there is one present at the time of examination. Because of this we have full necropsies done on any sudden death. We also urge our owners to do the same.

Thyroid problems are dog problems. Dogs in general have a good deal of thyroid problems. On the pet side they can lead to skin, coat and organ problems. In breeding it can lead to infertility and other breeding related problems.

CERF: Canine Eye Registry Foundation

Not unlike thyroid, eye problems are another "dog" problem. With in this there are specific problems that can plague breeds. Like heart problems these may not be present when they are young and may show up as a dog ages. Some problems can be inherited and some are unknown. Knowing if there is a problem will help us make better decisions in the future.

With the OFA and other recording agencies CHIC was born. Breed clubs can make recommendations of what the minimum criteria for breeding should be and if this is met your dog will become CHIC.

Great Dane:
Hips, Eyes, Heart and Thyroid.

All dogs must be "positively identified". This means they must have a microchip or tattoo.

The funny thing here is that the GDCA recommends a minimum of hips cleared but for CHIC you must have all 4 to receive the certification. The other down side: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PASS THE TESTS TO GET CHIC CERTIFICATE.

We recommend that you ALWAYS check the OFA data base and confirm test results.

WHY WE TEST: after 17 years of working in veterinary hospitals ( including Gulf Coast and Brittmoore Animal Hospital) I have seen the best and the worst of breeders.

I believe that if we have these tools to better our breed we should use them. It is not easy or cheap to have them done. Clearances can run in the thousands over a pets life. We believe in using the tools we have to better our breeds.

Not all breeders believe this but the tide is changing. We can not always find studs or dogs to bring in that are out of health tested stock. This is a problem and one of the reasons testing every single dog we own is so important. We urge you to look for puppies whose parents have been tested.

Many people watch Animal Planet and think it would be TOO FUN to own a show dog.

In my opinion it is :)

It is also full of disappointment, heart ache and failure. It takes commitment that MOST owners are not willing to make, draining your pocket book and leaving you wondering WHY?

We now require all potential show dog owners to mentor under us, one of our friends or a local breed club member prior to taking on a show dog. This means going to the shows, helping ring side, learning the ropes and doing LOTS of research. If you are not willing to do this we will not consider placing a show dog with you.

As always all pet dogs are placed on limited registration, all potential show dogs are co-owned by the breeder until health checks are completed and PASSED.

What it takes to own a show dog

A pretty face and a nice build does not make a show dog. Hard work, TRAINING and perseverance are the key building blocks. Once you bring your puppy home you have to not only do the "normal" training ( leash, crate and potty training) but you also have to condition, socialize, groom and train your puppy for show. This may not sound like much but it HAS to be started young.

Socialization: you need to take your dog as many places as possible, making the ride in the car and the whole experience as fun as possible. They need to meet as many different people as possible and need to be rewarded for proper behavior and corrected for bad behavior.

Conditioning: exercise. TO put it bluntly. Now young danes should not be forced to exercise, but they do need regular walk and play time. The rule is as much as they want too. This not only will make your life happier ( a tired dog is a happy dog) but it will also help build muscle and strengthen structure.

Training: This includes learning to walk well on a leash, learning to stack in the correct show stance, allowing people to go over your puppy ( including looking at the bite) and learning how to move in pattern. This is a daily task ( 5-10 minutes per day) You will also need to find and ATTEND a local handeling class as part of YOUR training.

Grooming: Nails Nails Nails. They need to be done AT LEAST once a week, preferably twice a week ( every three days) . Dogs should be washed when they are dirty and trained to be easy bathers. Before shows whiskers need to be trimmed and ears need to be cleaned up.

SHOWING: there are many shows here in Texas, some times as many as one a week end. You will have to travel to most. This will mean you need a dependable car. You will also need a folding crate and grooming supplies. You will have many times that hotels do not want a giant breed staying in them and you will have to crate your dog at the show sight. CRATE TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL!

You will need to purchase show collars and leads. . . all of this IS expensive. A typical week end runs $100 per day-- AT LEAST. You have to add in gas, hotel prices, and you will have to eat. . . this does NOT include the price of a professional handler. . .this is if YOU show your dog.

You also need to budget for entry fee's. Around $25 per show ( most shows are Sat and Sunday so $50 per show week end PER DOG. We go to an average of 2 shows per month. .. 24 week ends a year, 48 times to pay PER DOG. Average of $1200 per dog per year in entry fee's alone.
